When we see life, we can never see the whole thing. We know things will come that surprise us, and other times we see it coming from a mile away; but one thing we will never understand is God. All that He does in our lives, even the fact that He gave us life can sometimes seems such a mystery. Of course, we can understand some things about Him and His role in our lives, and through reading His Word we have many questions answered, yet in our own lives the story that unfolds is greater than we could ever imagine. Let me explain.
Let’s take a walk. We are in an amusement park and as we look out, we see this seemingly average roller coaster in the middle, and the sign calls this ride, “Life With God.” You think to yourself, “It doesn’t seem too scary or large, I can’t quite see the whole thing, but it looks like there are a few loops and drops, nothing major. I think I can do that.”
As you walk closer, and even head up the ramp, you see there aren't a lot of people waiting and perhaps you think to yourself, "I guess this ride isn't that popular." But you are still intrigued and you head to the front car, which of course is the best. As you lower yourself in the seat and adjust, the bars drop and the coaster begins its creaky ascension. The excitement and apprehension builds, and then you finally see it, the whole picture is revealed, wow. What you saw before was just a glimpse of what a ride this will be; you can’t even see the end, and you know this coaster will take your breath away. Then the drop, whoosh.
You can’t even scream because of the terror, what have you gotten yourself into, is there an emergency escape button?! Then it hits you, this is awesome! Not awesome as in how we usually use the word, but the awesome that we see in the bible when people are stunned with silence at the majesty. That first drop has taken you into a swirl of excitement and terror, you don’t know when the end is, but you are so excited to be in the thrill of it all. The loops, the turns, the speed and views, it is better than you could ever imagine.
That is how God is. You see a portion of Him, His love and kindness, His creation and beauty, and that might be what draws you in, but then, when you have entered into His presence, you see the whole picture. You take a look at what story He has been building from the beginning of time, the story that gave us Christ and His salvation, and through that we see the wild ride of life with God. This ride is faster, crazier, scarier and even more demanding than any thing you can think of, but the results are marvelous, and you know Christ is right by your side, laughing, crying and enjoying with you a life with him.
Are you ready to ride?
