Minister’s Corner

Shalom aleikhem! שָׁלוֹם עֲלֵיכֶם Peace be upon you!

I am praying that this morning as we all meet virtually, at a moment of great sadness, that our Lord Jesus will indeed bless us all with peace and His presence in a way that will make this morning a good, really good, morning.

Today we are all in shock after yesterday’s events. Perhaps still too fresh and too raw to completely digest, but in the face of this reality of life, which is the loss of life, we are worked over by so many more emotions beside shock. Finding God’s hand today, holding God’s hand today is imperative to still our thoughts, to handle our emotions so that from this experience we will grow. We will grow stronger in our faith, in our understanding, in our faith and relationship with God. Stronger as individuals and stronger as a Church.

As an Elder to our congregation Keith was a significant part of everything that happened at Troy and we will dearly miss him and his many contributions to the life of our community. We honor God for Keith’s faith and we celebrate his life in his legacy as we praise God as we imagine Keith’s reunion with our departed members.

This Wednesday – August 25th – Bible Study

On Wednesday, we will not have our usual family time from 6 PM. However, from 7PM, via Zoom, we will continue our journey through the book Genesis – God, Creation and Destruction by Dennis Prager.

Even if you’ve never attended before, I invite you to sign in and have a listen. Nobody is expected to talk, however listening to your brothers and sisters speak is a sure way of maintaining our body at Troy strong as a family, as we get to know one another better. At this time, especially, when I mourn the loss of a brother, these Wednesday times have become an extremely cherished memory.

Birthdays this week: Fran Birdwell (28th); Leslie Florescu (28th)

Haiti & Afghanistan

Please continue to battle evil through your prayers for the people of Haiti & Afghanistan. The images coming out of both countries are filled with sadness and loss. In Haiti more than 2,000 people have lost their lives in the earthquake and it seems that many people are suffering from a lack of aid, especially in the more remote areas. In Afghanistan, the threat of the Islamic State has escalated as the world was in shock seeing images of people falling off planes in their desperation to get out. The image of a 19-year-old boy found dead in an airplane wheel well after his desperate attempt to flee was a sober reminder of the consequences of our actions. May God, in His mercy, protect these people from further harm and may the plans of our enemy, the devil, be thwarted as we pray
