Godquest 8

Job 38:4-5
"Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off it's dimmensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line acrossed it?"

In the book, I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, Frank Turek and Norman Geisler provide an example about the sheer size of the universe:

"There are 100 billion stars in our galaxy, and the average distance between those stars is 30 trillion miles. How far is 30 trillion miles? Let's put it this way: when the Space Shuttle is in orbit it travels at about 17,000 miles per hour - almost five miles per second. If you could get in the space shuttle and speed through space at five miles per second, it would take you 201,450 years to travel 30 trillion miles! in other words, if you had gotten into the Space Shuttle at the time of Christ... you would be only one hundredth of the way there right now."

Keep in mind, that distance is just between two of the 100 billion stars only in our galaxy!!!

The distance across our galaxy is one hundred thousand light years.

How many stars are there in the entire universe? The number of all of them could very easily resemble the number of all the sand grains on all the beaches of the earth.

Get this, Isaiah 40:12, in speaking about God says - "Who has measured the water in the hallow of his hand, or with the breadth of His hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?"

It is beyond the capability of human mind to grasp it all - to grasp the difference components which have to be in balance for this whole universe to exist. Look at the universe - it screams at you two things: 1. There is a GOD out there whose IQ cannot possibly be measured 2. Stop trying to understand ALL before abandoning yurself to GOD - you can't with your mind so "lean not on your own understanding" - trust the GOD whose handwork testifies to His genius and care.
