Minister’s Corner

Shalom aleikhem! שָׁלוֹם עֲלֵיכֶם Peace be upon you!

We are finally entering my favorite of our holidays, the Christmas Season with its Advent weeks. Today is the first Sunday of Advent kicking off a period of self-examination, of renewed faith and resolve brought about by the hope, peace and joy of Advent. As it is fit, today we will be speaking of HOPE. Martin Luther Jr. was a man for whom hope played a central role in life. He is attributed with such quotes as: “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” and, “Everything that is done in this world is done by hope.” As long as a man has hope, he is unbeatable. Once hope is lost…all is lost. Hope teaches us to focus on what is good, and worthy of our focus. Anne Frank, although a victim of the Nazi racist machine, ultimately losing her life to it remained undefeated by her dire circumstances. Her diary bears witness to her hope: “I don’t think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains.” Let us renew this day our HOPE in Christ & overcome!

This Wednesday – December 1st – Family Time & Bible Study

On Wednesday, we will meet in person for our Family Time at 6:00PM for those of you who want to bring their meal and eat it in the company of other brothers and sisters. This is our weekly fellowship meal.

From 7PM, we will continue the new study on the subject of suffering lead by Caleb Simmons. Please join us in person and on Zoom for this insightful study.

2022

It is time to think of our 2022 calendar and start planning. As many of you are still only joining us virtually, I will be uploading the calendar file this week to my Google Drive and provide you with a link so you can check and add/make changes to birthdays, anniversaries, events, etc. I would also like your help to add to the calendar the dates we’ve lost those of our faith family at Troy so we can honor their memory and be able to provide an embrace to those left behind. Thank you in advance!

Offering

This morning you can make your offering online at https://troychurch.net/give

Or, by sending a check to Lisa Jones. Thank you.

Christmas Candlelight Service

December is upon us and with it the Advent Season and my favorite, Christmas Holiday. Christmas Eve is a Friday evening this year and I am trying to think of our Candlelight Service this year. If it is to count by our Sunday attendance, we will probably have a very small showing and if so I would like to plan something different. Would you help me out by letting me know who is planning to attend in person? Thank you in advance!

We bring our requests to you O Lord:

For those who have suffered loss: Lora Price, Nancy Schroeder, Mary Alice Cowie, Alanda Slusser, Dennis Setter, Karl Randall; Wright Family

For those healing: Fred Oja, Barb Oja, Lauren Birdwell, Linda Palmer, Roxy Morrice, Kerrie Birdwell, Dorel Burtoiu (Manu’s Uncle), Margie Zurlinden, Diane Flatt, Fran Birdwell, Joanna Diehl, Kathy Vickers, Brad Imhoff

“Only in the darkness can you see the stars.” – Martin Luther Jr.
