So we’ve had our first snow fall this year and although it did not last, it did make me think deeper of Christmas, almost making me jump right over Thanksgiving. I do pray this was not a sign of the kind of winter we will be having but I am grateful that I get the opportunity to look backwards at 2018 and what the 2018 year has meant for Troy Church. So many good things have happened, and I am grateful to have spent it together with you. Thank you for your faithfulness, for being here every Sunday to greet me as I get up in the pulpit to share with you what God has laid on my heart. I look forward to 2019 knowing that God’s faithfulness will bring to us the fulfilment of hopes and dreams and that the end of 2019 will find us closer to God and to one another.
Take the opportunity to spend this remaining time of 2018 to think, to meditate, to evaluate and to ground yourself into the basics. Jesus advises us to count the cost BEFORE we build. Are we ready? Have we counted the cost? Do we know what He is asking of us? Do we really know what it means to be His, to believe in Him? Hint: Much more than just that He died for us!
This Wednesday – November 14th, Family Time & Small Group Study
Come at 6:00pm on Wednesday with your brown bag as few of us get together before our Bible study and enjoy an hour of fellowship as we eat dinner together.
From 7:00PM we will have a Small Group Bible study. No advance preparation required. We will read and discuss chapter 4 of the Gospel of John.
Thanksgiving Baskets – Deadline November 18th
I am making a revision to my announcement last week regarding the Thanksgiving baskets. I did not realize that Thanksgiving this year is on the 22nd of November. Because of that I must move the deadline for contributing to the baskets to November 18th. Please donate cash or food items so we can put together 4 or 5 baskets. Also, please let me know if you are aware of any families that could benefit from these baskets.
Run with the Horses – New Adult Class Starting TODAY
We long to live life at its best, but we often find our lives humdrum and unadventuresome, or frantic and unfulfilling. When we go to the Scriptures to find examples of living life to its fullest, we often find imperfect, uncertain (and even unwilling) people asked by God to do something that only in reflection is revealed to be truly extraordinary. In an 8-week study of the book of Jeremiah, we will see the historical context of this prophet’s life and how relatable his life is to our own.
2019 Congregation Calendar
I’ve sent out this week the 1st draft of the congregational calendar for 2019. Please check your mail inbox if you’ve not seen it yet. Please review it and let me know if I need to add any dates, modify or delete. Also, please, please plan your 2019 around the important events we have at Troy, such as Easter, VBS, SOS, Corn Roast, Community Celebration & Clean-ups, Fall Fantastic and Christmas Eve where we need a greater number of volunteers.
- To Tomes, Parents, Flatts for the wonderful fish fry dinner we had on Wednesday. Great Food & Great TIME. THANK YOU!
- To all who donated for the Parents rummage sale adoption fund raiser and for all of you who came out to help with sorting, arranging and packing. Thank you!
- Thank you, Gary, for all the hard work with the Fall Clean-Up outside around the building. We praise God for you!
