The Bible
We've been talking in our Sunday Bible Class about the Bible. :) of course, you will say,... what else would you be talking about if not the Bible? :) However, even though talking about the Bible in the Bible Class is as natural as Peanut Butter in a Peanut Butter Sandwich there is an essential difference in the kind of Peanut Butter is in the sandwich. I, for the life of me, cannot eat creamy peanut butter. I am a forever Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter consumer and just like that, the type of discussion you have about the Bible during a Bible Class can make all the difference.
We've started with the desire to understand from the Bible the pattern by which the Church of today should organize, live, exist and manifest itself and ended up with a discussion in the very way the Bible was put together. Why? May be because we are not afraid to ask the hard questions. Because we are more interested in learning and living the truth instead of blindly following teachings taught sometimes with no real understanding.
In our discussions we discovered various ways of looking at the Bible. There are those of us for whom the Bible is a book written not only by divine inspiration but in fact by the Spirit taking possession of the individual writer to such degree that every word, letter and comma is as the Spirit intended. There were also some others who look upon the Bible as a collection of writing, stories about God and His people, about the Church written from the same desire that preachers and Christians today have in speaking about God. The level of involvement from the Spirit being the same, in which a preacher is hardly overtaken by the Spirit to the degree that every word and sound he make during a sermon is the Spirit's not the individual's.
I would be interested in knowing what you believe and why.
Thanks for participating and I look forward to your answers.
I shouldn't have to say this but I will. Please speak in love and respect and not in judgment and accusation. If your answer is anything but love and respect I will either delete it or rephrase it so it sounds as such. This is a forum open to ALL who love & respect, believers and unbelievers alike.
