The LAW
The first five books of the Bible, sometimes called the Pentateuch (Five Books) or the Books of Moses (because it is believed he wrote them), cover a lot of human history - from Creation to the death of Moses.
The central theme of these books seems to be the Law, epitomized by the Ten Commandments (replica picture above), given to Moses by God Himself on Mount Sinai.
These laws have done more to influence the legal system of all nations than any other standard.
Essentially, the Law was given by God to His people to show them how to relate to Him as well as to know how they should related to one another.
Another aspect of the Law is that it exposed the true state of human condition as enslaved by sin.
These books contain more than 600 commands and often times as Christians we skip them because "they were not for us, we are not under law." I believe this to be an error in our judgment because these books as the rest of the Bible contain truths of God and man that are not found anywhere else.
Remember, Jesus once asked about the greatest commandments of the Law. Jesus knew it's importance as well as the misunderstanding human kind had about it. He summed up these laws in two commandments, we call the greatest commandments. I encourage you to take the time and read these five books again keeping in mind these two greatest commandments because "All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." (Matthew 22:37-40)
Without clearly understanding these five books I believe it is very difficult to correctly understand Jesus' sacrifice and it's necessity. Christ is the fulfillment of the Law. The Law leads to Christ.
May God through the Holy Spirit guide your steps continuously on your Godquest to a complete fellowship with Jesus, the Christ.
