Fowler Update

Fowlers’ Update for March-AprilA powerful testimony. Several years ago, we told you the conversion story of Angela, a dear soul that trusted God more than she feared her ungodly husband. The day she came home and told him of her baptism, angrily he threw a plate of food at the wall and began harassing her. She had already begun reading her Bible, praying and finding Christian companionship in her fellow believers. Her two sisters were already committed to Christ and encouraged her. All of them were witnessing to their mother. Fast forward to 2015. The mother was hit by a car and put in the hospital but she had three Christian daughters to minister to her needs. She is not converted yet, but she was able to testify with happy joy: “Angela’s life has been changed, she has become a different person.”The Lord is working quietly behind the scenes and we say “Praise His name!”Visitors from Germany. In March we hurried with our regular work so we could host Randy and Katy Smelser, our long-term missionary friends who live in Germany. We enjoyed two days crammed full of joyful time together. We have known and loved them for decades, so we were very encouraged by their visit. Because we have observed their ministry in Europe for many years they were able to counsel us about some live ministry questions.Larry and Terri Lewis came also. They are engaged in a Christian library project in Berlin and we are looking into the possibility in the future to contribute significantly to the project with Harold’s library. Women’s Retreat.Later that same weekend Enid and Giovanna, a sister from our church, attended a women’s retreat south of Rome. The theme was “Reflections From the Gospel of Mark” using episodes of various women in this account and how they reacted to Jesus and received His kind help with their problems, and how their coming to Jesus made all the difference. We were especially encouraged by the testimony of a young woman who has been battling with leukemia this past year, she recounted how she has learned to cope herself, and encourage others as she has come through this disease positively with the Lord’s help. Another woman shared her story of wanting to go on the mission field and yet waiting patiently until the Lord led her specifically to a certain area here in Italy. The 50 women who attended the meeting were moved and inspired by these testimonies.Support? Yes, we need sufficient support to carry on our work. We have said many times, and sincerely believe, that the living God is our final supporter. He has brought us to this place and task, and has done it magnificently for 50+ years of service. His usual means are the gifts of His people. So if anyone wonders whether we still need mission support, the answer is a definite “Yes”. Our snail-mail address is Via De Magistris 3; 62024 Matelica (MC) Italy.Pray for a family in the church that is having an incredible hard time paying their bills each month and even the insurance on their car, to the extent of thinking about going to a loan shark. This would be tragic here in Italy, because usurers are particularly vicious in collecting failed loan payments, as well as exorbitant interest on loans – arriving sometimes as much as 400 %!  Both husband and wife work but their income is not adequate to put food on the table.  So we help them as much as we can. Harold is preaching and teaching again. The apparent repentance of one of leaders has not proven real but hypocritical, and so far he avoids the church. So, Harold helps by stepping in to fill the vacancy with another leader. Our worship leader is another brother who is gifted for this and is doing a fine job.Andrea and Belinda are continuing their Bible studies. This couple has a high enthusiasm for knowing more about the Scriptures and “getting into the Word” while letting the Word get into them. They come to our home for studies. Currently we are examining Orrin Root’s Training for Service, which is a general survey of the entire Bible.Let us hear from you. If you have e-mail, our address is hrldfowler@yahoo.com.Thanks for your prayers on our behalf. Pray for the congregation at Matelica and the hurt it is still going through. We love and esteem you highly for your work’s sake, and especially for your prayers.Harold and Enid Fowler
