Fowlers' Update for June

Fowlers' Update for June

DID YOU PRAY FOR HAROLD’S HEALTH? We consulted another neurologist who was trained in America at the Mt. Sinai hospital. He seems to closer closer than anyone previously to a valid diagnosis for what might be Harold’s problem (constant fatigue, trouble with eyes, fingers, speech). He prescribed some specific medicines and Harold will have to have an MRI of his neck. At the moment he has bronchitis so cannot take the new medicine until this is cleared up. In the meantime, he is doing swimming therapy. He can drive the car. He even preached at Matelica last Sunday, and continues two weekly Bible studies. So things seem to be looking up. Please continue to uphold him in prayer.

TORRE DELL’ORSO CONVENTION In mid-June, we participated in the yearly convention in southern Italy at Torre dell’Orso with brethren who came from other parts of Italy and Albania. The grand theme of the convention was “Christ is Coming.” This encouraging gathering was led to see once again the power of the belief in a Returning Lord. We saw pictures of Him in the Jewish view, Christ as seen in the Gospels, in the Letters and in Revelation. Harold preached on this book by bringing word pictures of Jesus’ self-revelation in this great book. After the convention, we went to Latiano for more fellowship and teaching…

SEMINAR ON TONGUES Roberto Innocenti, elder in the Viale Ionio church in Rome, was invited to lead a seminar at Latiano. It was his assignment to teach on tongues speaking, as practiced by so-called charismatic congregations and individuals, by presenting a hermeneutically sounder view of tongues speaking in the modern church. Ironically, the main text for these meetings was 1 Corinthians chapter thirteen, “the love chapter of the Bible” which Roberto explained carefully, bringing out the importance of loving the brethren who hold different views of this subject. But this was not to happen. This was an open meeting and factious brethren attended the two nights, to dispute and debate. Truth was not permitted to speak because sadly, these dissidents did not just raise a question here and there, but took the floor to manipulate and monopolize. Roberto did a masterful job presenting the theme, but the outcome was somewhat less than satisfying. He honored Harold by asking him give moral support, because Harold has written a Bible study on this subject. Enid printed copies of this study and we distributed it among those present. Our hope is that this Bible exploration will furnish one more concrete research resource for the church leaders and members for whom it was intended in the first place. Pray that this will happen.

May the Lord bless you as you have blessed us!
