The Long March of 2020

"You do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." James 4:14-15

Study groups temporarily suspended
After returning to Guatemala from a trip to the US (in December and January to see family and take care of matters that can't be done from afar), Marty got out to Uspantan in February to teach Bible classes again.
Then March came and Guatemala followed suit in pandemic preparations and invoked martial law in mid March, meaning travel is restricted to local trips. A week later we were put under strict curfew, only being allowed out of the house from 4am to 4 pm. So for now, classes are on hold. However, questions about the Bible still arise and one of the church leaders calls Marty with questions. Recently it was "Is this disease the one mentioned in Jeremiah?"

Daily routines
Trips to the grocery store require having a forehead temperature scan and a nose & mouth mask in place to be able to enter. All church gatherings are prohibited for now. And so, like millions of others, we wait for restrictions to ease.

Roof for Christian School
January is when outdoor construction ramps up in Uspantan, as rainy season is over and masons can start laying block and mixing concrete. The first "pour" for the roof seems to have gone without a major hitch.

Now that the first half of the roof is cured, the wood framing is removed and being set up for the other half of the building. We hope the second pour can be completed before the rainy season sets in again in May.

Old Testament editing chugs along
Fortunately, the face-to-face Old Testament checking sessions were completed in January! We celebrated the end of that phase at a nice restaurant. Now we have moved on to polishing and editing, which can be done from home, with phone calls for clarifying any difficulties. Technology in service to the Kingdom is a wonderful blessing.

This update has been of the highlights of the past three months. April's restrictions in Guatemala are similar to those imposed on the US. So we stay home, and wait on the Lord with you.

Still waiting ......,
Marty and Diane
